Summary
AGREEMED brings together a multidisciplinary team of ten partners from seven countries: Morocco, Spain, Germany, France, Tunisia, Jordan, and Italy. The project’s core objective is to improve the capacities of water actors in the Mediterranean region to develop integrated aquifer management plans. These plans will be tested in strategic pilot areas, including Souss-Massa (Morocco), Hammamet (Tunisia), and the Jordan Valley (Jordan), with the aim of safeguarding groundwater resources, supporting socio-economic growth, and preserving ecosystems in the face of global changes.
To achieve this, AGREEMED focuses on eight specific objectives, including:
- Delivering accurate scientific knowledge on groundwater processes.
- Evaluating non-conventional water technologies in the region.
- Increasing water availability and efficient use in agriculture.
- Promoting Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in water governance.
- Encouraging participatory and institutional dialogue for integrated resource management.
- Developing ICT and data-based systems for sustainable governance.
- Enhancing the environmental and socio-economic impact of aquifer management plans.
- Upscaling innovative strategies and promoting project outcomes across the Mediterranean.
By fostering knowledge exchange and innovative solutions, AGREEMED aims to create resilient and sustainable water management systems in Mediterranean agricultural areas.
